Freshchester Pale Ale och intervju med grundare Scott Vacarro

Ett flaggskeppsöl i hemlandet USA och den lokala Pale Ale som är nr 1 inom kategorin för hantverksöl försäljningsmässigt i New York City. Namnet “Freshchester” är en ordlek som kommer från regionen där bryggeriet har sin hemvist, Westchester County. Här, precis norr om New York City, har bryggeriet haft sin bas de senaste 16 åren.

Freshchester är en väl balanserad Pale Ale med en alkoholhalt på 5,5%. Det här är en hantverksöl som passar som sällskapsöl såväl som till mat. Humlen tillför smak av citrus och barr, med en hint av bitterhet som håller upp malten i avslutet.

Nu i sommar presenterar vi med stolthet Captain Lawrences Freshchester Pale Ale som bryggeriet bryggt i många år – och nu äntligen kommer svenska hantverksöl-fantaster till glädje.

Vi kommer även att erbjuda samma öl på fat hos ett urval av restauranger och barer runt om i landet.

Den här ölen passar utmärkt till hamburgare och tacos, den har en så pass kraftig smakprofil att den även klarar av lite kryddig matlagning!

En klassisk amerikansk hantverksöl, en Pale Ale från Captain Lawrence på hyllan från och med 1 juni 2022.

Andrew Reed, brandmanager för Craftöl på Galatea ställde några frågor till Scott Vacarro, grundare av Captain Lawrence bryggeri.

What inspired you to first brew a Pale Ale, and how long have you been brewing this beer?
I started as a home brewer in my kitchen in the late 1990’s and at the time American Pale Ale was the cutting edge of hoppy beers! It was the style that really got me thinking about what beer was and could be. It is a style that I still love to drink!

How have you seen the Pale Ale style evolve since you started brewing?
Like a lot of different styles Pale Ales have gotten hoppier and hoppier. Dry hopping a pale ale was never anything that I considered way back, that was for IPAs. Today it seems like some of the pale ales I have had are really pushing the limits of the style.

What advice would you give a homebrewer who wanted to brew a Pale Ale?
Start with a moderately malty base and then start building your hop bill to ensure you don’t blow out the bitterness, but focus on flavor and aroma. The more late kettle hopping the better.

How does Captain Lawrence Brewing try to be as environmentally friendly as possible?
We are side streaming and recycling as many of our inputs as possible and we employ a super low emissions steam generator as opposed to a traditional boiler.

What is your favorite meal to pair with the Freshchester Pale Ale?
I think Freshchester Pale Ale goes incredibly well with some nice spice buffalo wings. The bright citrus character and moderate bitterness really helps to cut through the spice and get you to your next bite!

What is your favorite song to sing at Karaoke?
Janis Joplin – Me and Bobby McGee

What inspiration do you draw from when imagining a new beer recipe?
The best place I find to be inspired when drawing up a new beer if from peers in the craft brewing industry. There are so many creative and inspiring people in the industry these days that it is easy to get the creative juices flowing.
